Up to date, our school had stripes only for white belts. But following
some recent rule changes, there will now be stripes for the coloured
belts also.
Sooooo..... yesterday evening, we had a grading. Two guys got their
fourth stripes on their white belt. And to bring us in in line with the
new system there were multiple white stripes for some of us. Four on
Ben's purple belt, two on Mark's blue belt and four on my own blue belt.
Feels funny. I was so used to the idea of no stripes, that it seems odd
now
:-)
Congrats! Out of interest, did the instructor share their reasons for bringing in stripes for coloured belts?
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
ReplyDeleteWe were told that John Will has decided to adopt the full IBJJF stripe system, and has started handing out stripes to all his coloured belts. So all the member schools will follow suit.
Most unusual: hopefully I'll get the chance to ask him when he's next in the UK. Like you, I've always been a bit dubious about the value of stripes, mainly because there is no real standardisation. The IBJJF system for stripes is mostly time based, as far as I'm aware.
